The high hours of sunshine and the sandy soils rich in humus have served as good bases for quality grape production in and around Kiskunhalas for generations. In recent years, the region’s wineries started to recognize that besides mass production, it is rewarding to make wines that reflect these excellent natural qualities in their tastes and flavors.
One of the most important representatives of this trend is Sándor Szőke and his Szőke Winery. They grow 16 varieties on 100-hectare vineyard and their wines are recognized as excellent in regional wine competitions. It is worth to highlight – and taste during a cellar visit – their flagship wines: Chardonnay, Green Veltliner, Generosa, Cabernet Sauvignon and Kékfrankos. Besides that don’t miss the Lace Museum near the cellar either!
